Homily given at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, July 29, 2018, the 17th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. This homily is the fourth in a series of homilies that began on July 8, 2018, on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
Today's first reading and the Gospel are both about the multiplication of bread. Fr. Ed notes that all the bread miracles are designed to help us grow in our faith so that we can believe in the greatest bread miracle of all: the one that takes place during the Mass when bread becomes the Body of Christ. The Liturgy of the Eucharist is the heart of the Mass, and the reception of Communion is the closest we can come to the Lord Jesus here on earth.
