Homily given at the 8:45 a.m. Mass on Sunday, March 3, 2013, the Third Sunday of Lent, by Fr. Satheesh Caniton Alphonse of the Servants of Charity. (At this Mass the First Scrutinies were celebrated for the RCIA candidates and elect, so the readings were from Year A.) Fr. Satheesh notes that in both the first reading and the Gospel, the people are thirsty. The drink that Jesus gives us will give us eternal life. Just as Jesus helped the woman at the well see herself, He helps us also to see ourselves when we come into His presence. No one ever really sees oneself until he sees oneself in the presence of Christ.

Key words: eternal life
