Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 18, 2013, the 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Pat Egan, Chaplain at Ave Maria Radio. Today's readings tell us to expect challenges in following God, but if we call to Him, He will rescue us. God in His mercy repeatedly bails us out. Keep your eyes on the goal and persevere. Our faith is proven through struggles, and God is with us in our struggles.

Nicholas reflects on how today's readings urge us to be steadfast in our witness to Christ, even to the point of shedding our blood.
