Ed notes that the apostles couldn't understand how it was better for Jesus to ascend until they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and experienced a level of union with Him more intimate than they had ever known. Dan speaks about the meeting of Cornelius and Peter as a turning point in human history when the saving grace of God is extended to the entire human race. This encounter with the living God should bear in each of us the fruit of the personal love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit. One of the best concrete examples of this self-sacrificing love of Christ is the love of a mother. We are all called to this same self-sacrificing love, which should draw others to Christ. Homily given at the 7:00 p.m. Life Teen Mass on Sunday, May 6, 2012, the Fifth Sunday of Easter, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Fr. Ed preaches on the Gospel of the day, John 15:1-8, in which Jesus tells his disciples, "I am the Vine, you are the branches." We are called to bear fruit, which is only possible if we are fed by the sweet sap of the Vine.
