Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 21, 2012, World Mission Sunday, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Sharing the Gospel is not just the responsibility of "professional" missionaries. Every baptized Christian has a responsibility to share the good news that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. To be able to do that, we need to come into a deep, personal, ongoing relationship with Him ourselves in the power of the Spirit in the heart of His Church. Key word: evangelization |

Homily given at the 8:45 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 14, 2012, the 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Fr. Ed notes that, even though Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived, it wasn't enough because he didn't follow God with his whole heart. Similarly, the rich young man obeyed all the commandments, but walked away from an invitation to follow Jesus. God's truth, His invitations, are not coercive. We have to decide to accept His truth and follow Him. Fr. Ed explores some of the implications of this for us, especially as we prepare for the elections. Key words: surrender, faith, trust |

Homily given at the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, September 22, 2012, the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. This weekend's readings all remind us that we should not try to live the Christian life alone. Without Jesus, we naturally tend toward the seven deadly sins, especially pride, envy, and lust. With Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be charitable in the face of opposition and imitate His example, persevering in following Him. As an example of persevering in the Lord, Fr. Ed cited John and Nancy McKeone, a parish couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, who renewed their wedding vows at this Mass. Key words: perseverance, trust, Holy Spirit |
