Catholic understanding is that, as a follower of Jesus, we are called, not just to belief, but to action, to love our neighbor as ourselves. Yet the government through the HHS Mandate would try to limit our freedom of religion, guaranteed by the Bill of Rights, to just worship that takes place behind church walls. In the face of this challenge, we have a responsibility to vote with the first priority being the protection of human life and the second priority being the protection of religious liberty.

Larry exhorts us to pray for the souls in Purgatory, not only on All Souls Day, but throughout the month of November, for they can do nothing to help themselves. They are dependent on our sacrifices and prayers. He also reminds us to keep in mind our own end, not out of fear, but out of love for God, who loves us and wants us to become the people He has created us to be.

Ed explains how the first reading from the Book of Maccabees establishes a clear understanding of the existence of Purgatory, the part of the Kingdom of God inhabited by the Church Suffering, and the importance of praying for the suffering souls in Purgatory, especially those who have no one else to pray for them.

Homily given at the 12 noon Mass on Thursday, November 1, 2012, the Solemnity of All Saints, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Fr. Ed encourages us to enter into a deeper relationship with our patron saints, especially our Baptismal and Confirmation saints, and to ask them for their help through their examples, teachings, and prayers. As we approach the elections, he especially encourages us to seek the intercession of St. Thomas Becket and St. Thomas More, two saints who know what it means to defend the rights of the Church against civil authority that is trying to strip the Church of the right and power to live in a free country. Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, October 28, 2012, the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. In the first reading, the prophet Jeremiah reminds the people that their land would be protected by God only to the extent that they stayed faithful to Him. We, like the blind Bartimaeus in the Gospel, need to do our part, calling on the Lord, trusting Him to act, and then following Him. We, too, have been given a wonderful land, but we must do our part. Fr. Ed urges us to take the effort to form our consciences according to the teachings of the Church, to pray, and to vote pro-life and pro-religious freedom.
