Homily given at the 4:30 p.m. Mass on Saturday, September 22, 2012, the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. This weekend's readings all remind us that we should not try to live the Christian life alone. Without Jesus, we naturally tend toward the seven deadly sins, especially pride, envy, and lust. With Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be charitable in the face of opposition and imitate His example, persevering in following Him. As an example of persevering in the Lord, Fr. Ed cited John and Nancy McKeone, a parish couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, who renewed their wedding vows at this Mass. Key words: perseverance, trust, Holy Spirit |

Homily given at the 8:45 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 9, 2012, the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Dcn. Greg VandeVoorde, Christ the King Catholic Church. Jesus takes the deaf-mute aside, away from the crowds, before healing him so that He can get his attention and he can focus on Him. Jesus wants a relationship with each of us, He wants to heal us, He wants us to know Him in a personal way. We need to take time to be alone with Jesus and to see Him face to face at Mass and in the Eucharist, so that He can heal us and gives us the power to go out to others and announce the Gospel of the Lord. Key word: conversion, healing, evangelization |

Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, September 2, 2012, the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Fr. Ed reminds us that our relationship with Jesus should result in an increase in love for God and for our neighbor as our hearts become more like His. As today's reading from the Epistle of James points out, that love should be expressed in very practical ways. The point of all that we do should be that we become better lovers, falling more deeply in love with Jesus and other people. Key words: love, charity |

Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 26, 2012, the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. Fr. Ed reminds us that, just as Joshua asked the people of Israel to choose who they would serve, we too are given the choice each day to decide who we are going to serve. Like the Apostles, we may not understand how to do what the Lord is telling us to do, but we are faced with the decision every day to choose to believe Him, trust Him, surrender to Him, and follow Him. Key words: choice, surrender, courage |
