Homily given at the 7:00 p.m. Confirmation Mass on Monday, May 18, 2015, by Bishop Earl Boyea, Fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Lansing. Bishop Boyea discusses that in the Sacrament of Confirmation, students are receiving a fullness of the Holy Spirit, and he encourages them to embrace the gentle heart of Jesus. He goes on to explain how one should live out that strong gentleness in a way that brings those around us closer to the truth. 

Homily given at the 4:30 p.m. vigil Mass on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2015, by Fr. Richard Lobert, chaplain at Fr. Gabriel Richard High School in Ann Arbor. Fr. Lobert discusses the human tendency toward complacency when it comes to living our faith with a fire in our hearts, a fire for the love of God. He says that we must allow ourselves to be fully transformed by the love of God, which in turn will allow us to love one another as God loved His only Son.   

Homily given at the 11:30 a.m. Mass on the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord on Sunday, May 17, 2015, by newly ordained transitional Dcn. Peter Lawrence of the Diocese of Lansing at Christ the King Catholic Church. Dcn. Peter discusses the idea that the Ascension of the Lord is calling us to reflect on the number of ways that we are called to be closer to Jesus.

Dan reflects on how the Ascension of the Lord reveals to us the reason for our hope. Through Christ's Ascension into Heaven, humanity enters into the love of God Himself.

He encourages us to put on the whole armor of God, so we can stand fast in this truth and more deeply appreciate the feminine genius and protect it.

Today's Gospel calls us to bear fruit in the power of the Holy Spirit. The past week gave us three great saints who show us how to yield to the Spirit: St. Catherine of Siena, Pope St. Pius V, and St. Joseph.

The Easter season is a time for rejoicing and preparing for the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Fr. Ed encourages us to re-read the Acts of the Apostles during this season. Then, if there are spiritual gifts described there that we haven't experienced, make a "Pentecost shopping list" of gifts to ask the Lord to give you this Pentecost.
